In a bustling metropolis like Singapore, it's all too easy to lose sight of the sanctuary that lies within the walls of our own homes. Urbanisation often distances us from the tranquility of nature, and amidst the hustle and bustle, we met a young family yearning to seek solace in their first home.

Together with the homeowners, local singer-songwriter Agnes Low and her husband, we embarked on a journey ‘Closer to Home’, where we embraced the Scandinavian philosophy of balance, harmony and a deep connection to nature.

At the heart of our design approach was the desire to create a personal oasis that feels like a breath of fresh air. With the deliberate use of natural wood elements and light neutral tones, we introduced a cohesive sense of calmness into the house.

Fulfilling the homeowners’ request for extensive storage spaces, we integrated our exclusive modular furniture series, the Min+Modules, with carpentry works to create a full-length TV console and shoe cabinet, accompanied with a cosy seating area. This allowed us to fully utilise the available wall space and create a neat and seamless look with plenty of storage spaces – so Agnes and her family can enjoy their Netflix sessions without any clutter in sight.

In the study room, the Min+Modules took on a multi-functional role as a settee, side table and storage cabinet – perfectly fitted in the alcove to fill up the void.

Though Scandinavian is a widely common interior style, Agnes and her husband contributed many unique design ideas that turned the home into an extension of their personalities.

One such example is the floor-to-ceiling wooden trunks leading to their kitchen, which was an idea raised by the couple and sourced on their own accord. After nailing down the right shape and thickness, our carpentry team took over to cut and refine the wooden trunks such that they would fit in seamlessly with the rest of the interior.

Another personalised feature is the arch wall near the dining area. Thoughtfully chosen by Agnes herself, the decor pieces reflect who she is and what she loves. Paired with the wooden trunks, it tied the whole Scandinavian look together and created a story that only the couple can tell.

‘Closer to Home’ isn’t just about creating a space to live in; it’s about cultivating an environment for one to truly recharge and find solace. It’s a reminder that amidst the bustling city, our homes can be an oasis – a place that celebrates the beauty of everyday life.
